Who we are and what we do...
Northern Transitions, Inc. (NTI) is a non-profit agency with a mission of providing opportunities through employment, training, and education to individuals overcoming barriers so that they may self-determine their role in the community. More simply said, we help put Michigan to work in many areas of employment. We have been helping people find many different types of jobs in entry level positions, as well as skilled labor positions, for over fifty years. Our aim is to find a placement that will match the individuals interests and abilities as closely as possible. In addition to this, we operate the Chippewa County Recycling Center where individuals can gain work experience.
A few of the areas where we have helped people find positions include:• Custodial/Janitorial Training• Factory Work• Dishwashing• Food Preparation• Lobby/Housekeeping Work• Retail• Groundskeeping
We do this by providing job coaching services. Job Coaching/training is a unique feature of a Supported Employment Program. The Job Coach works on site with the employee until the employer is satisfied with the work performance. The on-site training fades as the employee learns the job. Follow-up contacts are made to ensure both employer and employee are satisfied with the job. Across the nation there has been a growing awareness that individuals with disabilities are underemployed. Each of us has a talent, whether undiscovered or untapped. With some assistance in acquiring the necessary skills and experiences, each of us can make positive and desirable contributions to society. NTI can help individuals discover who they are by examining their personality traits, interest, skills, and looking at the types of available financing to help individuals learn. We can help you develop a work history, learn about tools for preparing a better application, obtain a state identification card, or write cover letters. We can also help prepare you to search for jobs, keep a job search log, create a network to assist in job hunting, and practice mock interviews. Once you have found a job we can help you maintain that job by offering job site orientation, on-site training/coaching, and follow along services. You can contact one of the agencies below to find out how they can help you begin services with NTI:• Hiawatha Behavioral Health• Michigan Commission for the Blind• Michigan Rehabilitation Services• EUP Intermediate School District Or you may contact us at:Northern Transitions, Inc. 1401 W Easterday Avenue Sault Sainte Marie, MI 49783 Phone: 906-635-5681 Fax: 906-635-9615
